Putting Kids First
February 4th, 2010 | by admin |No one can argue, that as parents, are plates are extremely full. Bombarded by work, financial demands, domestic responsibilities; it is often very stressful to walk away from all these demands and put our attention solely on our biggest, yet often overlooked duty to play with our children. Yet, this is one responsibility that is vitally important to the health of our children. As parents we want the best for our kids and sitting down and showing them you are interested in them and them alone goes a long way.
One of the best play time activities that we can participate in with our kids is to engage in creative, imaginative play. Activities such as Legos, blocks, or play kitchens are wonderful tools to promote creativity and ingenuity.
I am amazed sometimes at what my son can build, and it is a past time that most dads love to participate in as well. One activity that I found to be highly popular for my little girl is playing with her toy kitchen. We can spend hours together cooking up feasts, serving cookies and tea and pretending to shop for food.
Children don’t necessarily care what the activity is as long as it is an opportunity to connect with their parents. When we leave the demands of our day, walk away from the computer and bills, and focus our attention on our children they are gaining valuable positive growth in those moments.
