Are Adults Capable of Learning to Play the Violin?
February 11th, 2010 | by admin |I know a lot of people who have a passion for music but are being held back either by time management or financial problems.
Personally, I think there is no such thing as the “right timing” when it comes to learning to play an instrument. Remember that the decision process is often the most difficult phase but once you’ve started, everything will be a lot easier.
You might want to consider these factors before making your decision:
1. Time
Just like in learning how to play any kind of musical instrument, the student has to consistently practice to master his skills. Look at your schedule and see whether you can squeeze in some practice time. It does not have to be 3 hours a day but it should definitely be consistent, may it be only 30 minutes every other day.
2. Money
There could be some violin teachers in your area. However, it will be challenging to look for a good teacher with low hourly rates. That’s why I opted to do online violin lessons which cost less and offer flexibility. These lessons have been really very helpful. A friend of mine, who has been playing the violin since fifth grade is very impressed as well.
3. Inspiration
Make sure that learning to play the violin is something you really want to do. I know a lot of teenagers who are being forced by their parents to take music lessons. These teenagers ended up hating what they do.
Remember, playing the violin has valuable benefits for you and your family. A single mom that I know told me that playing the violin has become a therapy for her. It helps her pull herself together after a long busy day.
Another parent I know told me about the positive changes in her child’s learning ability after they both started playing the violin.
Personally, playing the violin has helped me in a lot of ways. It helped me reconnect with my creative self. It made me realize that even if I’m older than many students, I am still very capable of learning the one thing I’ve always wanted to do.
