About Lowering Cholesterol
March 18th, 2010 | by admin |Most people have heard about the term Cholesterol, and assume that to a certain extent it is somehow associated with heart disease. They however don’t know much beyond that. But what exactly is Cholesterol and why is it present in the body and what should you do about lowering cholesterol?
We first need to understand that Cholesterol is a naturally occurring substance in the body and that our own liver synthesizes cholesterol every single day of our lives. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that is found in the cell membranes of the trillions of cells in our body. The cell membranes of the cells play a crucial role in selectively letting lipids and other substances pass in and out of the cell. Therefore cholesterol helps in establishing the proper membrane permeability and fluidity of the cell.
