I’m just curious how they grout polished marble tile, or if they do at all? unlike more common tile like ceramic or various other stone where you have a good gap between the tiles, alot of times with polished marble tile that i’ve seen there is so little space between the tiles that it almost looks "seemless". I was just wondering if they still put grout between them and if so, is the process the same?

There is a reason that it looks like so small a gap. This type of marble is made to go almost tight together with what appears to be no gap. If you look at a loose pc of marble, you ll see the edges have a very slight bevel on them. This is where the grout holds onto. Most installers leave a small "hair" gap to allow minor size differences. But other wise the un sanded grout goes into the small bevel.
Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL

Dear All, i would like to know how they will grind and polish with natural stone, the details (4 face grinding and polishing).
i think it is wet grinding. Thanks

You can polish anything, using anything which is harder. Marble is a relatively soft stone, and if you used another type of rock to polish it, it could work but would take a long time. We use to use a quarts based stone, but these polishing stones are quite thick, needed lofts of water and left a really big mess. Sandpaper is a small amount of quartz sorta glued on a piece of paper or canvas. Not very practical when polishing large amounts of marble like an entrance floor, but would work on smaller pieces ot statues. Today we use industrial grade diamonds. That plastic, Number 1 was taking about is just that. These diamonds are embedded in a resin, melted together to form a diamond pad. These diamond pads which comes in different grits can bring the highest amount of shine in a marble when used properly. The last step is a powder, which is usually based of Oxalic acid, potassium, and other "fun stuff", and this brings out the final mirror finish.

I am not sure, but I think I should polish my newly installed granite countertop, then seal it. Is this correct?

So after I seal it, can I still polish it like 6 months or 1 year later?

Yes, and when you mean polish I suppose you mean that light dirty film left over after installation.

The supplier you purchased the granite from should recommend a cleaner/sealer to keep the stone maintained properly. A good cleaner will have protection properties which replenish the protection every time you use it. This ensures many years of non staining. A good product is Revitalizer by Stonetech.

The stone does need an intense sealer/impregnator initially and should have been done by the installer or fabricator. You can do it yourself if you follow the instructions carefully.

My contractor says a simple polish will restore the floor, but other people say it needs a "grind and polish".

Is a "grind and polish" really better, and how much dust does it throw up, normally?

Polish for stains if is sealed at all, grind is only for scratch’s that go deep in the stone. a bufffer may be required to strip the wax sealer off then seal and wax the floors

Sorry. I wrote the last sentence twice but can’t delete it.
Kept searching and discovered the building was pink limestone and the city was Alexandria.

Thanks, anyway.

I don’t know if it is by the sea, but there is a Baptistry in Parma, Italy that was built between 1196 and 1270. It was constructed of pink Verona marble by Benedetto Antelami. It is near the Parma River.
